The Tarn of Megyer Mountain, one of the most beautiful natural wonders of our country, is located near Sárospatak, as well.

The Tarn of Megyer Mountain is a man-made lake, as the volcanic rock of the 303-metre-high Megyer Mountain was suitable for millstone production. Quarrying was already started in the 15th century, and the worked continued by hand 1907. In order to remove the water that accumulated in the quarry, a water channel was cut. The channel was deepened for decades. After the end of quarrying, the quarry turned into a lake, i.e. a tarn.

The neighbourhood of the tarn became a conservation area decades ago. During our visit, we should pay attention to the preservation of its special botanical, zoological and geological values.
